Answering common customer-support interview questions

Most support interviews circle around three questions in some form: tell me about a difficult customer, tell me about a time you made a mistake, and why do you want this kind of work.

For the difficult-customer question, structure your answer around what the customer actually needed underneath their frustration, not just how upset they were. Interviewers are listening for whether you can stay calm and solve the actual problem, not for a dramatic story.

For the mistake question, pick something real and specific, say plainly what you did wrong, and spend most of your answer on what you changed afterward. Avoid mistakes that were really someone else's fault - that reads as deflection.

For 'why this work', be honest. Reliable people who communicate clearly and stay calm under pressure are in real demand, and saying that plainly is more convincing than a rehearsed line about 'loving to help people.'
